PARIS21 participates in 3rd International Conference on Governance, Crime and Justice Statistics

PARIS21 participated in the 3rd International Conference on Governance, Crime and Justice Statistics which was held in Mérida, Mexico, 7-10 June 2016. The conference provided the opportunity for representatives from NSOs, other government institutions, UN agencies and research, policy and civil society organisations to exchange best practices for the production of statistical information on crime and criminal justice, including innovative ways to use administrative records, and to strengthen the co-ordination of regional and international initiatives.

PARIS21 was invited to make a presentation on “Building institutional statistical capacities for monitoring the SDGs” which underlined the need to increase the funding and scope of institutional capacity in order to answer the new needs brought on by the 2030 Agenda. In particular, PARIS21 highlighted the need to empower national statistical offices in bringing together all data producers and users in order to fully and sustainably exploit new data sources to create more granular, timely and affordable statistics.
