The Anguilla Statistics Department (ASD) in collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and PARIS21 conducted a workshop on Friday, 9 November 2012, to produce a road map for the design of a National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) for Anguilla.

Anguilla is the third country of the region, with Grenada and St. Kitts and Nevis, to launch a light NSDS exercise following the meeting of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), which took place late October 2011 and was facilitated by PARIS21.

This workshop brought together various members of the National Statistical System as well as regional representatives (CARICOM) and Statistical Directors from other countries (Aruba, St. Kitts and Nevis). Best practices were shared and the participants broke out into working groups to exchange views on various themes such as priority needs of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies; Main Gaps in Statistics in Anguilla – User Perspective; Coordination of the National Statistical System (NSS); Reforming and Restructuring NSS, and Statistical Advocacy.

The event was covered by the regional press and radio. The opening ceremony, which included speeches from the Chief Minister & Minister of Finance, was broadcasted on the evening news.
