PARIS21, in collaboration with the CARICOM Secretariat, organised a validation workshop on 23 June 2017 during the 20th Meeting of the Caribbean Advisory Group on Statistics in Paramaribo, Suriname. The workshop, hosted by the Algemeen Bureau voor de Statistiek of Suriname, aims to present the preliminary findings on the assessment of the Caribbean regional statistical system in preparation for the CARICOM Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS).  Among the key issues discussed include the challenges in the legal and organisational environments of the regional and national statistical systems within the Caribbean that need to be strengthened; existing data gaps to address in support of SDGs; establishment and co-ordination of national statistical systems; and greater investment and funding for NSOs and wider statistical activities.
