In part to help update its current statistical strategy (Plan Estratégico Nacional para el Desarrollo Estadístico 2008-2012) and extend it to the period 2013-17, the National Statistical Institute of Peru (INEI) held a conference in Lima on 29 September 2011 of some 150 participants including data users, producers from all ministry lines, and the media.

Facilitated by PARIS21, the event presented international best practices from a variety of panelists, such as the director of the Consortium of social and economic research, president of the executive committee of the ministry of planning, UNFPA representative for Peru and leader of the newly formed group on coordination, the director of Monitoring and Evaluation of social impact, etc. Presentations were delivered on global trends in economic, social, agriculture statistics, in particular on the Global strategy on the improvement of agriculture and rural statistics.
