The first regional workshop for the Andean Community was held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, from 13 – 15 May 2002. This workshop was jointly organised by PARIS21, the Andean Community and the National Institute for Statistics of Bolivia. Its theme was "Socio-Economic Statistics To Support Policies In The Fight Against Poverty."
The workshop aimed to support country endeavours to meet more effectively the statistical needs of policy makers and the users' community. The event provided an opportunity for partners in statistics to meet, to share lessons learned, and to plan forthcoming actions. The following countries were invited to participate: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
On 14-15 October 2002, a follow-up meeting to the Andean Community regional workshop was held at the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques (INSEE), in Paris.
