OECD, PARIS21 and UNICEF were pleased to host an official side-event of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC56), bringing together the statistics and data community, NSOs, and UN representatives to delve into the transformative role of AI in enhancing data quality and its implications for official statistics.

The OECD's gender data community will discuss measuring gender data capacity.

On 10-11 February, France will be hosting the AI Action Summit at the Grand Palais in Paris. In its mission to strengthen national statistical systems and advance the use of data for sustainable development through policy, capacity building, and innovation, PARIS21 will host an online side event under the Public Interest AI track.

PARIS21's AI-Readiness Self-Assessment Toolkit offers a self-assessment methodology for national statistical offices (NSOs) to evaluate preparedness across five key domains and establish an evidence-informed baseline. This process helps NSOs identify priorities and build the foundations needed for responsible and effective AI adoption.

This webinar is specifically tailored to Latin American and Caribbean NSOs and will provide a practical and detailed introduction to the SPEED framework and accompanying AI-readiness self-assessment resources.

What happens when official data are actually accessed and used in an increasingly AI-mediated information environment?

AI tools, search engines and other intermediaries are changing how users discover and consume official statistics. NSOs need to better understand whether and how their data are being accessed, redistributed and used by AI systems and how to optimise their dissemination practices. The webinar will take stock of the current situation globally and bring together experiences from NSOs and the OECD. It will explore what can already be monitored, what remains difficult or invisible, and what practical steps statistical offices can take to improve the use of their data in the AI age.

PARIS21 will be present a session on "Enhancing the Use of Climate Change Statistics: Lessons from the Global South on Civil Society Engagement and AI Opportunities.”

CSO representatives from Kenya and Somalia will work together to learn how climate change data can help them in their advocacy efforts.
