Comprehensive gender data is a cornerstone for achieving gender equality, yet significant gaps remain in building the systemic capacity needed to address this challenge. Since the era of Sustainable Development Goals, governments have considerably enhanced the production of sex-disaggregated data across traditional policy domains and have put in place institutional mechanisms to advance gender equality. Yet the slow progress towards achieving gender equality points to missed opportunities and a disconnect between data production and their transformative use.
This event will spotlight Gender Data Outlook 2024, a joint report by PARIS21 and UN Women, which offers fresh insights into the building blocks of robust gender data systems. Drawing on an analysis of 83 countries' (selected OECD and non-OECD) gender data capacity, the report sheds light on critical areas such as institutional capacity, data sharing mechanisms, and data use patterns. Against the backdrop of the Beijing+30 review, this discussion will engage OECD participants in rethinking how investments in gender data systems can drive evidence-based, gender-responsive policymaking-moving beyond statistics to foster systemic change for equality.
