PARIS21 holds a privileged position at the heart of the global data ecosystem. Our partnership has made considerable progress on many fronts and our long-standing, trust-based relationships with national statistical offices (NSOs) provide us with deep insights into the challenges they face.
PARIS21 has been both an innovator and an incubator, developing tools and methods tailored to the needs of our partners and solutions that can be adapted, scaled and replicated widely. Our Capacity Development 4.0 framework, the ADAPT tool and the recently launched Climate Change Data Ecosystems approach are just three examples of how we have broadened the focus of our work to strengthen NSSs to target different stakeholders and skills.
PARIS21 addresses not only the capacity of individuals but also the wider needs of the institutions in which they work as well as the broader stakeholder context. Our success is rooted in our agility: We quickly adapt to evolving needs and circumstances. A cornerstone of this work is the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) concept, which is used in over 80 low- and middle-income countries, among them 45 African countries. The number of these national strategies designed and implemented has doubled between 2007 and 2023 across regions and small island developing states. Many partners have demonstrated how the NSDS process can serve as a platform to unite stakeholders across the NSS around shared objectives and strengthen statistical capacity in a holistic manner. At the same time, we are closely connected to global discussions on critical issues such as data use and impact, financing for development data, emerging innovations, gender, and climate change data that are at the forefront of policy making. This unique position allows PARIS21 to act as a bridge between local realities and global priorities, ensuring that local-level innovations inform and strengthen global efforts, and vice versa.
As we look to the future, the refreshed PARIS21 Strategy seeks to strengthen NSSs and support partners in meeting the demands of a rapidly changing world. Whether through leveraging new innovations and technologies, ensuring ethical data use and impact, or securing sustainable financing for development, PARIS21 remains committed to its mission of achieving better data for all.
