Botswana is increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, where rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, and erratic rainfall are becoming more frequent and severe.
Tackling climate change in Botswana requires coordinated efforts between government and non-government actors grounded in the effective use of quality data. Reliable data are essential to implement and monitor national policies such as the Botswana Climate Change Policy and the National Adaptation Plan, and to advance the country’s global commitments under the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement.
Statistics Botswana and PARIS21 organised a multi-day training workshop on climate change data for climate action. The workshop aimed to build participants’ capacity to access, interpret, and apply climate-related statistics, with a focus on inclusion and community resilience.
Data and statistics produced by Statistics Botswana and the wider national statistical system (NSS) play a vital role in helping users understand climate trends and their impacts. These insights enable evidence-based decision making, support community-level action, and promote greater public awareness. Using trusted data also fosters accountability and strengthens transparent, informed climate policies.
