Designed primarily for civil society organisations and other data users, the workshop focused on strengthening the use of official climate change statistics for advocacy and decision making, while creating a space for participants from both countries to exchange experiences and learn from one another. Over three days, participants worked with official datasets from Kenya and Somalia, explored data storytelling, visualisation and responsible uses of generative AI, and developed communication products based on climate statistics.
Their projects covered issues including land degradation, forest conservation, rising water levels in Lake Turkana, clean cooking practices in Somalia and the inclusion of marginalised communities in climate policies.
The workshop also marked the presentation of Kenya's Climate Change Data Ecosystem (CCDE) Strategy, while the national statistical offices of both countries showcased climate data products and discussed how they can better support policy and advocacy.
