Reliable data starts with strong institutions; strong institutions requieres the right legal foundations.
From 24–26 June 2026 in Maseru, Lesotho, PARIS21 joined the Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, the European Union-funded Equitable Lesotho Programme and Expertise France to support a series of awareness workshops around Lesotho’s proposed new Statistics Bill.
The three-day mission brought together 144 participants, including parliamentarians, senators, government ministries, departments and agencies, media professionals, civil society, development partners and key data users.
Beyond raising awareness, the workshops created a shared understanding of the reform and the respective roles of institutions responsible for implementing it.
By engaging both decision-makers and data users ahead of the Bill's adoption, the initiative is helping lay the foundations for a stronger, more coordinated and user-oriented national statistical system in Lesotho.
