The Statistical Capacity Building Indicators (SCBI) task team coordinated arrangements to identify indicators on statistical capacity building for countries receiving assistance from multilateral and bilateral donors. The selection of indicators were based on their potential as measure that provide:

  • a snapshot reading of the existing statistical capacity of countries
  • a common yardstick that could be used across countries
  • monitoring of statistical capacity building of countries.

The team held three meetings (May 2001, September 2001, and April 2002) before publishing a final and summary report of the SCB Indicators. The IMF's Statistics Department chaired the task team and the World Bank's Development Data Group acted as Secretariat.
