The growing demand for data to implement national development plans, achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and address global crises calls on national statistical offices (NSOs) to increase data production, develop and coordinate national statistical systems (NSSs) and engage with the larger data ecosystem. Enhancing the leadership skills of leaders of NSOs through targeted training is essential to help them to respond to emerging data needs, enhance institutional positioning, and build public trust.

PARIS21, with the support of various partners, has been providing leadership training to Director Generals from NSOs worldwide to empower them with the skills needed to excel in their roles and deliver their National Strategies for the Development of Statistics (NSDS).

Statistical leadership and management training for middle-managers of the national statistics system

PARIS21's Leadership and Management training programme targets middle management in national statistical offices and the national statistical system. The training programme supports middle managers in providing strong leadership to ensure that data and statistics are produced and disseminated, that statistical standards are in place and adhered to, and data quality is assured within the entire NSS. The training programme supports the acquisition of appropriate leadership skills, which will allow middle managers to provide effective leadership and management at institutional and systemic levels.
