Global advocacy for smarter financing
A barrier for low- and middle-income countries to build the statistical infrastructure for sustainable development for all is the need for more resources for their national statistical systems (NSSs). This requires both the mobilisation of additional domestic resources and a smarter approach to external aid that enables existing and new resources to go further. PARIS21 champions greater and smarter resource mobilisation for data and statistics to support evidence-based, inclusive sustainable development.
Engaging in international initiatives on development data
Partnerships between different data producers and users are essential to help countries build robust statistical systems that deliver accurate, timely and inclusive data for implementing and monitoring their development goals. PARIS21 engages in and drives a number of international initiatives to bring together, mobilise, and co-ordinate partners and other stakeholders in the data community and beyond to advance sustainable development through inclusive, evidence-based action.

Digitalisation and innovation
Innovations in data, such as advances in data science, artificial intelligence and new data sources can all greatly contribute to sustainable development by filling gaps and increasing the granularity of data. To ensure that innovation benefits everyone, low and middle-income countries also need access to the same tools and opportunities to collect and use the right data to achieve their development goals.
PARIS21 partners with countries to build and share knowledge and tools to advance innovation and digitalisation in statistical production. Programmes such as the Gender Data Lab (GDL) and Data Science Mentorship are carefully tailored to suit country contexts and capacities, through these, PARIS21 is striving to achieve better and more accessible data.

Understanding and promoting the use of gender data and statistics
Gender data and statistics are lacking worldwide. Without these data, the needs of women and girls may be overlooked, and women and girls left behind in policy making for sustainable development.
Tackling the root causes of gaps in data and statistics is essential as is building skills and capacity to collect and use gender data. PARIS21 has been working since 2019 with country, regional, and global partners on mainstreaming gender in our programming, guidance, and tools to improve the representation of women and girls in data and statistics.
