Climate change data

21 Sep, 2023 | Project
Data that provide essential information about climate change are currently fragmented and complex, coming from various sources within countries, international organisations, and the private sector. This makes it difficult to sustainably produce relevant data, hampers efforts to report on international commitments and decreases the opportunities for policy makers to use evidence when responding to climate change impacts.

PARIS21 has developed a Climate Change Data Ecosystem (CCDE) approach which helps ministries of environment, national statistics offices, civil society, academia, and international partners to work across data silos and produce data on all aspects of the climate crisis in an organised, systematic manner that support climate change data use.

How small island developing states in the Caribbean are building climate change data ecosystems to understand and address the climate crisis

| Our impact
As the climate crisis moves from hypothetical to real, the global community is only starting to discover the myriad of impacts it is having. For various reasons, traditional approaches to gathering data do not produce the data and statistics that countries and international organisations need in order to tackle climate change. PARIS21’s “ecosystem” approach provides a framework that can help gather and analyse data across different entities and departments who do not have a systematic approach to collaboration. A number of Caribbean islands who are on the frontline of the climate crisis are eager to adopt this approach to data to improve their resilience and adapt to climate change.
